Abstract
The cause of congenital bladder diverticula is an inherent weakness in the bladder musculature and herniations of bladder mucosa between fibers of the detrusor muscle. Therefore, bladder diverticulectomy has classically been performed by open surgery (extravesical, intravesical, or combined). An excision of bladder diverticulum was successfully performed using a transperitoneal laparoscopic approach in a 31-year-old male affected by recurrent urinary tract infections. The operation took 240 minutes with blood loss of 50 ml. No postoperative complications were noted. Laparoscopic excision of bladder diverticulum is an effective surgical procedure, with excellent intraoperative access and minimal postoperative morbidity.
